Happy New Year!

It's got to get better. We have lost so many people, and we have seen so much willful stupidity. But we have seen so many people working hard to care for others, helping others be safe and healthy, comforting others, and just putting their lives on the line doing jobs on which others depend without even knowing who they're putting at risk by being able to buy fresh meat and vegetables. We've seen hospital workers, nurses, doctors doing their jobs as carefully and skillfully as they know how; reporters and others speaking truth to power; protesters defying tyranny, racism, sexism... so yeah, we have a lot to be thankful for, and to give us hope for the New Year (how can I keep from singing?).

During WW2 a Pole wrote birthday greetings to a friend that I paraphrase here:
A great many Trumpies wearing masks,
A great many meat packers with full PPE,
A great many vaccinations into farm workers' arms,
So much luck I wish for you!
