2023 was so-so, but it became an awful year in October. So-so before then, but at least we did some things we've been meaning to do. The three files, linked below, are Meher's descriptions of buying the apartment, what our downsizing consisted of, and where we have wound up. 30 km from the house is where!
...so awful, that I couldn't bring myself to recycle the Polish verse for a third time. Ukraine doesn't need to see its allies distracted by the Hamas attack and the Israeli response, doesn't need to see weapons and ammunition diverted to Israel. None of us need to see people pretzelizing themselves first to confront rape, murder, torture, and kidnapping inflicted on Israelis outside Gaza, and then to recognize the disproportionate trauma visited on the Palestinians in reply without being perceived as anti-semitic. That these things occurred in the first place is bad enough. That they have been the basis for complex dialectics demanded by attempts to shore up short-sighted, faulty arguments is bad enough. I can't do that stuff, so I will let Tony Judt speak for me, prophetically, as he did before he died 13 years ago.
